Lifestyle Costs
It is generally assumed that non-title holding characters incur a daily cost of living. Rather than trying to account for every meal they eat, every night at the inn, and every boot they need to get repaired, an abstract method is utilized to track these basic needs
PAYING LIFESTYLE COSTS
At the beginning of each session, a lifestyle cost is assessed for each character. This cost is assumed to cover costs for the character's food, housing, clothing, and other basic needs between sessions while they have been 'off screen'. Two variables affect the amount that will be deducted from the character's coffers: their chosen lifestyle (see below) and the amount of in-game time that has passed since the character last appeared in a session. The amount charged for a given timeframe is listed with each lifestyle.
For example, if 20 days have passed in game since the last time a character was present and that character is living a 'Common' lifestyle, then the player must deduct 20 gold pieces from their character's possessions. Characters who have been absent for an exceptionally long period of time (over a month in game) and cannot afford the daily cost of living are assumed to have picked up mundane work and are down to their last 2d6 gold coins.
NON-TITLE HOLDING LIFESTYLES
Squalid (free) - You are begging on the street. You are filthy rabble and most people generally avoid your presence. Healing will be difficult, if not impossible.
Poor (1 coin/week) - You are staying in a very rundown flophouse, likely relying on charity for most of your meals. Natural healing will also be very difficult.
Common (1 coin/day) - You are staying in a common room at an Inn (like the Lodge of the Black Banner in Hiburim). This is the default lifestyle and incurs no other benefits.
Fine (3 coin/day) - You have a private room at an Inn or another similarly secure arrangement. You are able to reasonably store more items than you can carry.
OTHER COSTS
Any other recurring expenses (property costs, wages for retainers, etc.) that characters have will also be deducted at the start of a session. If expenses cannot be paid, the Referee will determine the consequences.
As the campaign develops and characters acquire titles or property, this section will be updated.
